Information is power. And when it comes to looking for a job in the midst of the current crisis situation, any kind of little advantage is crucial. In order to stand out from other candidates, finding out about the company to which we send our resume is essential.
Even more so if we already have arranged a personal interview. In this case, do your research and find out everything you can about your potential interviewer and the company you are going to.
How to find out about the company?
The company website will be the first source of useful information. It is likely that in it you will locate the mission and objectives of the company, its values, its modus operandi and even the people who work for it. Also check their profiles on social networks, as they will give you an idea of their day-to-day life, the treatment they have with customers or suppliers.
But if you only review corporate information, you will only find positive data. It is also good that you do a search of the position of the company in its sector, of what is said about it, of the image that is head of it.
There are online databases, such as e-informal, where you can consult certain company data. In some you will have to register or even pay to access detailed reports, but the most relevant data is public and free. For example: number of employees, ranking among companies at the provincial or state level, sales evolution -to know if it is a growing company-, the CIF, the registered office, the National Classification of Economic Activities and company name, that will be useful to you to know the labor agreement to which the company adheres.
All this information will help you to go to the job interview with greater confidence, with a clear image of what is being done and -probably- what they are looking for in the candidates. It will also help you a lot to answer a question that the interviewer might ask you: “Why do you want to work with us?”
