A motivated worker increases the productivity of the company. This statement, which is in the public domain, seems to have not yet reached the ears of those most interested: the bosses. In this way they continue to live in their redoubt of power while the workers are losing desire, hope and performance.
And we are not so concerned about productivity, but about our own well-being when we talk about the need to motivate ourselves at work. Because what we are most interested in avoiding is that dissatisfaction that is born in the work environment and that spreads to all areas of our lives. So if our bosses aren’t interested in motivating us, we’ll have to do it ourselves.
What demotivates you at work?
You may not have the job of your dreams, you may carry out an occupation that contributes little to your personal development, but the truth is that any job is a starting point towards an illusion, whatever the field. So you can’t get carried away by monotony or by the indifference of your superiors if you don’t want to end up bitter.
It is also true that it is not easy to face the day with enthusiasm when you have to hit those early mornings that lead you to an endless working day that leave you so exhausted that you cannot enjoy your little free time. To make matters worse, your payroll does not reflect all the effort made and the current sword of Damocles that is dismissal hangs over the entire squad.
But we are going to face all these setbacks because nobody said that life was a path of roses without thorns and, the most important thing is to recover the illusion for the future. Adapting to the present and playing with what we have at the moment is the key to moving forward and finding new professional and personal paths.
How to motivate yourself at work?
It is true that you need a better salary to cover all your expenses, so if the salary increase is something unattainable at the moment, do not give up. Strive to perform at your best and keep your mind clear in the search for a solution, whether in the form of a new job, a promotion, or embarking on a different project of your own.
You also need recognition of your work from your bosses, something that would help you raise your morale and motivate you to be more efficient. But since it seems that your bosses are not up to the task, it is best that at the end of the day you take stock of your successes that day and reward yourself with small details, such as going shopping or enjoying a coffee with friends.
The important thing is that you don’t lose sight of the fact that you do your job well and that, even if they don’t tell you, you are important to the operation of your company. But it is also essential that your current job does not take away the illusion of finding new professional paths that fulfill you more.
