It is inevitable to have certain disagreements with our boss even though we both want the same thing. Productivity is the word most used in all companies, but the resources that lead to greater productivity are understood differently by bosses and employees. And to a certain extent it is normal to feel the boss’s pressure on our work, since his function is to achieve higher benefits and higher performance, but when the boss’s attitude begins to exceed certain limits, we must be alert and protect ourselves from what is known as a disease of power.
What is the disease of power?
An inappropriate use of power can cause a series of behavioral disorders that have negative repercussions on those who suffer from it, on their subordinates and, of course, on the company. These are excessive behaviors that are generated by the desire for more power, the obsession with success and a misunderstood desire for perfectionism.
In any case, the disease of power manifests itself in situations such as distancing itself, keeping itself inaccessible to workers , contempt for the work of others, which translates into arguments, public humiliation and punishment, and, in general, a distorted vision of the functioning of the company
We can imagine the danger of having a boss sick of power both for ourselves, negatively influencing our job and emotional stability , and for the company itself, since this illness also leads to deification of the person or believing oneself with more capabilities than it really has.
Work with the disease of power
Although there are some things we can do to protect ourselves against a bad boss, the disease of power is one of the main reasons for job dissatisfaction, loss of motivation and many cases of depression. And it is that it is very difficult to unmask someone sick with power, fueled by his own privileged position.
Nor can we trust the measures that other managers take when they begin to notice the havoc that the behavior of that person is causing in the company, since they have made it very clear to us that layoffs always start from the bottom.
And there is nothing we can do to make the person sick with power come into contact with reality, since it is a full – blown psychological disorder. It will be a professional who will make him see that something is failing in his value scale and that he should once again focus his interest and effort on the company and not on maintaining his position of power.
